Patna: For millions of people travelling daily by different trains, leaving behind luggage on a train or falling victim to theft has long been a source of anxiety. But officials say a simple, no-cost solution is now in place to help passengers recover their belongings with minimal hassle.

The railway network has been encouraging travellers to use Rail Madad, a digital platform designed to address passenger complaints swiftly. Authorities say the system is capable of initiating action almost immediately after a report is filed.

Passengers who realise their luggage has been left behind are advised to lodge a complaint without delay. This can be done either through the Rail Madad mobile app or its online portal, both of which operate 24 hours a day.

To file a report, users must enter their PNR number and provide detailed information about the missing item — including the type of bag, its colour, contents and the coach in which they were travelling. Once submitted, the complaint is routed to railway staff, who begin tracing the item across stations and trains along the route.

Railway officials say the round-the-clock availability of the system ensures that passengers can report losses at any time, significantly improving the chances of recovery. The process, they emphasise, does not involve any fee, making it accessible to all travellers.

With growing passenger volumes and increasing reliance on digital services, the initiative is being positioned as a practical step towards improving customer experience on one of the world’s largest rail networks.

  • “People are the real power in a democracy.” After the trust vote of Samrat Choudhary government, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav launched a fierce attack—questioning shifting governments, lost time, and taking sharp digs at Samrat Choudhary and former CM Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar over leadership, education claims and governance. 🔥

  • Bihar is reeling under an intense heatwave as temperatures cross 43°C in several districts including Saran and Dehri (Rohtas), while the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for extreme heat in parts of the state; nights are also unusually warm with little relief, and health authorities have set up special heatwave wards as risks of heatstroke and dehydration rise, with forecasts indicating continued high temperatures and only possible isolated rainfall after April 28 that may bring some relief to southern Bihar.

  • The Bihar government has announced a major hike in compensation for road accident deaths, raising the total payout to ₹8 lakh for victims’ families. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said ₹4 lakh will come from insurance coverage while the state will contribute an additional ₹4 lakh, aiming to strengthen financial protection for accident victims.

The announcement was made during the confidence motion debate in the Assembly, where the government also highlighted its focus on improving public education and infrastructure. Choudhary emphasized plans to upgrade government schools and continue reforms in the education sector, building on earlier initiatives under the state leadership.

  • The Bihar government has announced a major push for women’s empowerment by planning bank loans of up to ₹10 lakh each for 50,000 women’s self-help groups in 2026–27. The initiative under the “Jeevika” programme aims to strengthen rural livelihoods and expand women-led enterprises, supported by strong repayment records and rising financial inclusion across the state.

Officials said around Rs 16,000 crore in loans is expected to be disbursed this year, with millions of women already engaged in small businesses like farming, retail, animal husbandry, and services. With a reported repayment rate of about 99%, the programme is set for further expansion, boosting economic opportunities for rural women in Bihar.

  • The Bihar government led by Samrat Choudhary won the trust vote in the Assembly through a voice vote, formally securing its majority after a heated political debate. Speaker Prem Kumar declared the motion passed and congratulated the newly formed government, as the ruling NDA defended its governance record and development agenda in the state.

The session saw sharp exchanges between the ruling alliance and Tejashwi Yadav, who questioned the government’s stability and frequent leadership changes in Bihar. Choudhary rejected allegations of dynastic control, stressing governance priorities like tackling corruption, crime, and communalism, while the opposition continued to raise concerns over political instability.

  • Political tensions in Bihar are heating up as Rohini Acharya joins Tejashwi Yadav in attacking the state government over energy supply claims. She questioned the logic behind discussing coal availability when authorities insist there’s no shortage of LPG, calling it a “reverse gear” approach to development and mocking the idea of a “double-engine government.”

Acharya argued that bringing coal back into household conversations signals a step backward, not progress, and accused the government of hiding present failures behind past narratives. With Tejashwi already raising concerns over governance, inflation, and public services, the debate over development in Bihar is only getting sharper.

  • Bihar is set for a major infrastructure boost as the government upgrades the 45 km Bakhtiyarpur–Mokama Bata Chowk road via Barh, widening it from 7.5 metres to 11 metres at an estimated cost of ₹250 crore. The project, which follows the old NH-31 alignment through key towns like Pandarak, Mor, and Shivnar, aims to modernize the route and handle increasing traffic demands, with completion expected by April next year.

Originally announced by Nitish Kumar during his Pragati Yatra in 2025, the upgraded road will ease congestion and significantly improve connectivity across the Bakhtiyarpur–Mokama–Begusarai–Khagaria corridor. It is expected to benefit daily commuters and boost freight movement, especially in rural and semi-urban areas. 🚧
