New Delhi/ Patna: Indian Railways has claimed to have implemented crowd control measures to handle the surge in passenger traffic during the final week of Maha Kumbh. In a statement issued on Thursday evening, Indian Railways stated that holding areas have been set up at key stations across the Northern, North Central, North Eastern, and East Central Railway zones to regulate the flow of passengers and prevent overcrowding.
These holding areas, located outside platforms, will ensure a structured entry process, allowing passengers to access platforms only when their train is scheduled for departure. The initiative aims to enhance passenger safety and streamline movement, particularly during peak hours of the festival season.
East Central Railway has set up holding areas at major stations, covering a total of 47,075 sq ft. Rajendra Nagar Terminal has two holding areas of 2,700 sq ft and 800 sq ft, while Patna Junction has two areas of 2,700 sq ft each. Similar arrangements have been made at Danapur (2,700 sq ft and 2,400 sq ft), Ara (3,375 sq ft), Muzaffarpur (2,400 sq ft), Hajipur (2,400 sq ft), and other key stations including Begusarai, Barauni, Samastipur, Jaynagar, Madhubani, Raxaul, Sakri, Darbhanga, Saharsa, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction, Sasaram, and Gaya, each with designated holding areas ranging from 2,000 sq ft to 3,375 sq ft.
Additionally, North Central Railway has set up a large-scale holding area of 1,15,572 sq ft at Prayagraj Junction to accommodate pilgrims and travelers.
