Patna: Indian Railways has announced a series of summer special trains connecting Bihar with major destinations including Amritsar, Delhi and Tirupati, in a bid to ease seasonal overcrowding during the peak holiday period.
The East Central Railway said the additional services will operate across multiple routes, including Delhi–Sitamarhi, Sealdah–Delhi, Delhi–Bhagalpur, Bhagalpur–Delhi, Amritsar–Jaynagar, Jaynagar–Amritsar, Amritsar–Barauni, Barauni–Amritsar, Muzaffarpur–Yognagari Rishikesh, and Danapur–Bhagat Ki Kothi.
Special trains will also run between Tirupati and Raxaul, expanding connectivity for passengers travelling to southern India.
According to officials, the services are scheduled to run between April and July 2026 on selected days, primarily Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The number of trips for each route has been determined in advance, with passengers advised to check the official railway website or the NTES app for updated timings and availability.
The move comes as part of efforts to manage the surge in passenger demand during the summer vacation period, when trains from Bihar often see heavy congestion. Railway authorities said the additional services are expected to reduce overcrowding and improve the chances of securing confirmed tickets.
Large numbers of travellers from Bihar typically head to other states during the holidays, including popular tourist and pilgrimage destinations, leading to increased pressure on existing services. Officials said the introduction of special trains is aimed at anticipating this demand and ensuring smoother travel during the busy season.
