Jamui: In a shocking incident, a jeweller was robbed of around Rs 50 lakh just 20 metres from the Malaypur police station on Friday night. Seven masked and armed criminals carried out the attack, hitting the businessman with the butt of a pistol when he tried to resist. The incident took place on the Jamui-Malaypur main road, leaving the local community in fear and disbelief.
The victim, 35-year-old Vikram “Vicky” Soni from Purani Bazaar, was travelling to Kolkata to buy gold and silver. Speaking about the attack, Soni said he was riding his motorcycle towards the Jamui railway station to catch a train. “As I reached the Anjan River bridge, six men on two motorcycles and another man in an auto-rickshaw surrounded me. They pointed guns at me and tried to snatch my money. When I resisted, they hit me on the head with a pistol. I fell to the ground, bleeding, and they escaped towards Kiul,” he said.
Police quickly responded after the incident was reported. Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Dayal, Station House Officer Shekhar Saurabh, and other officers arrived at the scene. The injured businessman was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. SP Dayal personally visited Soni at the hospital to learn details about the robbery and the attackers.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the crime. SP Vishwajeet Dayal said a special team has been formed to identify and catch the criminals. He assured that the police were taking the matter very seriously and that the perpetrators would be arrested soon. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of local traders, especially as the robbery took place so close to a police station.
