Jamui: A major uproar took place in Jamui on Saturday when Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) workers allegedly created a ruckus outside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office. The incident happened soon after Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav visited Jamui to campaign for his party’s candidate, Shamshad Alam. During a procession led by Alam, the situation turned chaotic as RJD supporters reportedly gathered outside the BJP office and began shouting slogans.
According to reports, the RJD candidate and his supporters took out the procession without official permission. Soon after, BJP leaders accused the RJD workers of vandalising their office and raising religious and anti-national slogans. The BJP claimed that the incident was a deliberate attempt to threaten its candidate from Jamui, shooter-turned-politician Shreyasi Singh.
Union Minister Anupriya Patel held a press conference to address the issue. She alleged that Shreyasi Singh was being threatened by the RJD candidate and his supporters. Patel strongly condemned the attack and said such behaviour reflected the RJD’s attempt to disturb the peaceful election process. Uttar Pradesh Minister Dinesh Pratap Singh also criticised the RJD, claiming that its workers blocked an ambulance for nearly 40 minutes during the commotion, showing complete disregard for public safety.
Following the incident, a case was registered at the Jamui Sadar police station. Station Officer Amarendra Kumar said that, based on the statement of the magistrate, an FIR was lodged against the RJD candidate for organising a procession without permission and for creating public disorder. The police have begun investigating the matter, while political leaders from both sides continue to exchange sharp words. The incident has added to the rising tension in Bihar’s political scene as the election season heats up.
