Patna: The Jan Suraaj Party has dissolved its organisational units across Bihar following a heavy defeat in the 2025 state assembly elections, as the party attempts to regroup ahead of the next political cycle.
At a meeting on Saturday, the National Council approved the decision to disband all bodies from the panchayat to the state level with immediate effect. The move comes a day after party founder Prashant Kishor announced the launch of the Bihar Navnirman Sankalp Abhiyan, a new outreach campaign set to begin on January 15.
Party spokesperson Syed Masihuddin said the dissolved committees would continue in an executive capacity until new units are constituted, a process expected to take around six weeks. Senior leaders have been assigned to oversee all 12 administrative divisions and tasked with building what the party describes as a “more effective and functional” organisational structure in their respective districts.
The leadership has also directed the newly formed oversight teams to conduct detailed consultations and submit reports identifying the reasons behind the electoral defeat, including instances of indiscipline or alleged sabotage.
Saturday’s meeting was chaired by state president Manoj Bharti and attended by several senior figures, including Lt Gen SK Singh (retired), former Union minister RCP Singh, senior advocate YV Giri, and a number of retired civil servants and former legislators.
Jan Suraaj, which had generated significant attention ahead of the polls, delivered a disappointing performance, with most candidates failing to secure even a top-three finish. In the aftermath, Prashant Kishor undertook a symbolic fast, calling the results a moment for reflection.
A general council meeting is scheduled for December 21 in Patna, where the party will discuss its reorganisation plans and future strategy.
