Patna: Professors and staff of J.D. Women’s College staged a sit-in protest in Patna, demanding the withdrawal of the Special University Act. The protesters said they opposed the proposed changes and urged the government to reconsider the legislation.

Police were deployed on the college campus as the protest continued. According to accounts from the protesters, police later took several members of the group away in buses as they attempted to march towards Lok Bhawan.

Protesters Demand Withdrawal Of The Act

The primary demand of the protesting professors and staff is the withdrawal of the Special University Act. They have called on the government to reconsider the proposed legislation.

The exact official title of the Act and details of its provisions were not immediately available.

Teachers Seek To Remain Under The 1976 Act

The women professors participating in the protest said they wanted to remain under the 1976 Act rather than be brought under the 2026 Act.

The protesters urged the government to consider their concerns and address their demands. Further details about the legal provisions and their implications for college staff were not immediately available.

Police Take Protesters Away In Buses

Police personnel were deployed on the college campus during the demonstration. According to protesters, police intercepted the group while they were heading towards Lok Bhawan.

Some protesters allegedly attempted to block police vehicles as personnel took members of the group away in buses.

The protesting professors alleged that police personnel mistreated them, including women participants, and claimed that some were assaulted. These allegations could not be independently verified.

Government Response Awaited

The protesters continued to demand the withdrawal of the legislation. No official response from the government or the concerned administration was available at the time of writing.

Further clarification is awaited on the provisions of the Act, the protesters’ demands and the circumstances surrounding the police action.
