Patna: The Janata Dal (United) has dismissed four of its district presidents in Bihar after allegations that they did not stand with party or alliance candidates during the recent elections. The party said further disciplinary action, including expulsion, could follow if the charges are upheld during the final round of hearings.
The leaders removed on Friday were heading the JDU units in Bagaha, East Champaran, Begusarai, and Bhojpur. Their replacement as acting district presidents has already been announced:
Former MLA Prabhat Ranjan in Bagaha,
Ratan Singh Patel in East Champaran,
Former MLC Bhumipal Rai in Begusarai,
And Bhim Singh Patel in Bhojpur.
According to party sources, the move follows written complaints submitted by JD(U) candidates contesting from various constituencies in the affected districts. They alleged that the district chiefs failed to back the party and its alliance during the campaign.
All accused district leaders were summoned to the party’s state office for hearings. While some hearings have taken place, others are still pending.
A senior JDU functionary said that a committee is examining the complaints and will speak to both complainants and the accused. “Everyone will have an opportunity to present their side. If the allegations are eventually proven, expulsion from the party remains an option,” the official said.
