Patna: Eight senior leaders of the Janata Dal (United) were sworn in as ministers on Thursday as Nitish Kumar formed his new government after taking oath as Bihar’s chief minister for a record tenth term. The ceremony, held at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan, was administered by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and attended by a large gathering of NDA leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were sworn in as deputy chief ministers before the induction of the JD(U) ministers, signalling continuity at the top of the coalition government.
The JD(U) figures inducted into the cabinet include Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Bijendra Yadav, Shravan Kumar, Ashok Chaudhary, Leshi Singh, Madan Sahni, Sunil Kumar and Jama Khan — all familiar faces in Nitish Kumar’s administrations. Their return underscores the chief minister’s preference for experienced hands as he begins another term in office.

Ashok Chaudhary, known for his work in rural development and building construction, also retained his place.
Leshi Singh and Madan Sahni, both associated with the social welfare department in earlier administrations, were reappointed, while Sunil Kumar — elected from Bhorey in Gopalganj and formerly in charge of education — returned to cabinet rank. Jama Khan, who previously held the minority welfare portfolio, was also sworn in again.
