Patna: Janata Dal (United) leader and Bihar Legislative Council member Sanjay Singh on Monday announced that nearly 94 lakh impoverished residents of Bihar would receive Rs 2 lakh each under a new government initiative. Singh, who also serves as the party’s state vice-president, made the announcement during the launch of the “20 Years of Nitish’s Unmatched Governance” public dialogue tour in Madhubani.
Addressing a series of public meetings in Pandaul (Madhubani constituency), Parsa Surya Mandir (Jhanjharpur), Jagatpur Panchayat (Phulparas), and Betha (Laukaha), Singh claimed that Bihar had seen significant progress under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s two-decade tenure.
“Every section of society is benefiting from Nitish Kumar’s schemes,” Singh said. “The role of middlemen has ended, and 100% of the benefits are now reaching the rightful beneficiaries directly.”
Among the key announcements, Singh highlighted plans to provide Rs 2 lakh each to 94 lakh poor citizens and to raise the monthly pension for senior citizens to Rs 1,100. He also revealed that marriage halls would be constructed in every panchayat at an estimated cost of Rs 50 lakh each, aimed at transforming rural infrastructure.
The Jan Samvad (public dialogue) programme saw participation from former minister Laxmeshwar Rai, local leaders including Santosh Singh Mukhiya and Sanjay Singh Mukhiya, along with panchayat heads and a number of JDU officials.
