Gaya/Patna: A police inspector posted at the Cyber Police Station in Jehanabad has been suspended after an inquiry found serious lapses in the investigation of two criminal cases, prompting disciplinary action by Magadh Range Inspector General (IG) Vikas Vaibhav.
The suspended officer, Inspector Pankaj Kumar, was serving as the investigating officer in Makhdumpur (Tehta) Police Station Case No. 321/25 and Case No. 437/24. The action followed a report submitted by the Jehanabad Superintendent of Police and a subsequent review by the IG’s office.
According to officials, the inquiry revealed that Kumar failed to seek police remand for the interrogation of arrested accused persons and did not submit timely applications before the court for warrants against absconding suspects. Authorities said these lapses benefited the accused and adversely affected the progress of the investigations.
The review also found that the officer had failed to make clear station diary entries regarding the progress of the investigations and remand-related proceedings, raising concerns over procedural transparency and accountability.
Inquiry Finds Multiple Lapses
According to the IG’s office, the report submitted by the Jehanabad SP highlighted negligence, apathy, indiscipline and procedural irregularities during the course of the investigations. The report recommended disciplinary action, including suspension.
Officials said the cases under review involved serious criminal offences, including robbery and dacoity. The inquiry concluded that deficiencies in the investigation enabled accused persons to obtain legal relief from the courts, potentially undermining law enforcement efforts and affecting the maintenance of law and order.
Departmental Proceedings Ordered
IG Vikas Vaibhav said the findings warranted immediate action.
“Action has been taken against Police Inspector Pankaj Kumar following the discovery of serious negligence in the investigation of cases. He has been suspended. Furthermore, directives have been issued for a departmental inquiry. He was posted at the Cyber Police Station, Jehanabad. This action was taken subsequent to the investigation report submitted by the SP, Jehanabad, and during the course of a review,” he said.
The suspension has taken effect immediately. Kumar has been placed on subsistence allowance pending further proceedings, and departmental action has been initiated against him.
