Patna: Two young men were injured after gunfire broke out late on Monday night at a toll plaza in Bihar’s Jehanabad district, police said, following a dispute involving a wedding procession.
The incident took place near Serathua on National Highway 22, on the Patna–Gaya route, where an altercation reportedly erupted between members of a wedding party and toll plaza staff. According to officials, the situation escalated rapidly into a physical confrontation, during which shots were fired.
The injured, identified as Gyani from Umrai Bigha and Rohit Kumar from Niyazipur, were taken to the Sadar hospital in Jehanabad, where they are undergoing treatment. A third youth is also reported to have been hurt during the scuffle.
Those injured have alleged that toll plaza employees were responsible for the shooting, though this claim has not yet been independently verified.
Assistant superintendent of police Manoj Pandey said officers responded to the incident overnight and visited the hospital to speak with the injured. He confirmed that two people had sustained injuries, but said it remained unclear whether both were caused by gunfire, pending medical reports.
Police said a firearm suspected to have been used in the incident has been seized, and an investigation is under way to establish the sequence of events and identify those responsible.
