Patna: Union minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has urged the Bihar government to take action against Rajan Singh over remarks in which Singh claimed that LJP (Ram Vilas) chief and Union minister Chirag Paswan belongs to the transgender community but conceals his identity.
Singh, who has been associated with the Bihar State Transgender Welfare Board, made the claim in remarks that have circulated on social media. No evidence supporting the claim has been presented, and there has been no formal response from Chirag or his party to the remarks reported on Monday.
Manjhi Calls For Government Action
Reacting to the remarks, Manjhi posted on X on Monday that making an “indecent” comment about a Union minister and labelling him transgender was inappropriate.
He urged the Bihar government to take action against the person who made the remarks about his Union cabinet colleague Chirag Paswan. Manjhi tagged Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary in the post.
Remarks Spark Controversy
In the video cited by media reports, Singh claimed that Chirag belongs to the transgender community and had concealed his identity. Singh further said that if Chirag publicly identified himself as transgender, members of the community would support his bid for the chief minister’s post.
The claim remains unsubstantiated. Reports have not cited evidence establishing the claim about Paswan’s gender identity.
@samrat4bjp— Jitan Ram Manjhi (@jitanrmanjhi) September 21, 2026
Singh’s Association With Transgender Welfare Board
Singh has been associated with the Bihar State Transgender Welfare Board. A July 2026 Patna High Court order also identifies Rajan Singh as a transgender member of a state-level Disha Committee under the Union Ministry of Rural Development.
In July, Singh was also reported as having proposed a temple in Patna dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a meeting of the Bihar State Transgender Welfare Board. The proposal was approved by the board at the time.
Political Differences Over Reservation
The controversy comes against the backdrop of differences between Manjhi and Chirag on aspects of Scheduled Caste reservation.
Manjhi has advocated a sub-quota within the existing reservation framework, while Chirag has opposed applying the concept of a creamy layer to SC reservations, arguing that the basis of such reservations is historical discrimination rather than economic status. These positions have been publicly reported as differing approaches to the reservation question.
