Patna: The Kachchi Dargah-Bidupur six-lane bridge across the Ganga has entered the final phase of construction, with 99.8% of the work completed, according to officials. The project, designed to improve road connectivity between North and South Bihar, is expected to be inaugurated next week, although the official date has not yet been announced.
According to official sources, the inauguration is likely to take place from the Bidupur side. The ceremony is expected to be held between July 14 and July 17, subject to final confirmation by the state government.
Final Preparations Underway
The district administration and concerned departments have stepped up preparations for the proposed inauguration.
Officials are making arrangements for the venue, security, VIP movement and traffic management to ensure the event is conducted smoothly.
Officials Review Progress
Road Construction Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal inspected the project on Thursday along with officials from the Vaishali district administration, the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL) and the executing agency, Larsen & Toubro (L&T).
The inspection covered the bridge and its approach roads from Bidupur to Mathura. Pal directed officials to closely monitor the remaining work and ensure it is completed within the stipulated timeline while adhering to technical standards.
Remaining Work To Be Completed By July 14
According to L&T, 99.8% of the project has been completed.
The remaining work includes finishing, stressing of expansion joints, painting and other technical activities. The agency said it expects to complete all pending work by July 14.
Improved Connectivity For North Bihar
Once operational, the bridge is expected to improve connectivity between Patna and districts in North Bihar, including Vaishali, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Madhubani and Sitamarhi.
Officials said the new crossing will reduce travel time between Patna and North Bihar while easing traffic pressure on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu.
Expected Economic Impact
The bridge is one of Bihar’s major road infrastructure projects and is expected to strengthen transport links between the northern and southern parts of the state.
Officials and transport experts say improved connectivity could support trade, agriculture, industry and tourism by facilitating the movement of goods, reducing transport costs and improving the efficiency of road travel across the region.
