Kaimur/Patna: A nine-year-old girl died after being bitten by a venomous snake while playing near a village culvert in Sisauda, Kaimur district, with local residents reporting the unusual development that the snake also died shortly after the incident.
The girl, Shivangi Kumari, daughter of Raju Bind, was playing near fields in the village when the snake reportedly bit her. She died following the incident.
According to Sisauda panchayat head Pradeep Kumar Singh, Shivangi was sitting near a culvert when the snake struck. He said the snake also died at the spot after biting the girl.
The Forest Department has taken the snake for examination. The cause of its death has not been established.
Police Begin Investigation
The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Ramgarh police station.
Police reached the village after receiving information, conducted an inquest and sent Shivangi’s body to Bhabhua Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Her grandmother’s statement was also recorded.
Ramgarh station house officer Sumit Kumar confirmed that the girl died after a snakebite but said he had no information about the reported death of the snake.
The police have begun further proceedings.
Family Seeks Compensation
Pradeep Kumar Singh has urged the district administration and state government to provide compensation to Shivangi’s family under applicable disaster relief provisions.
He said the family was financially vulnerable and needed immediate assistance.
Four Snakebite Deaths Reported In 48 Hours
The incident comes amid reports of several snakebite deaths in Kaimur in recent days.
Two brothers died after snakebites in Ajgara village under Kudra police station last Friday, while a teenage girl died after a snakebite in Biuri village under Chand police station on Saturday.
According to the information provided by local authorities, four people have died from snakebites in the district in the past 48 hours.
