Patna: The Bihar government has approved tourism development projects for the Kesaria Buddhist Stupa and Sitakund Dham in East Champaran, while bringing both destinations under the Chief Minister Homestay Promotion Scheme to promote local employment and tourism.
According to the Tourism Department, the initiatives are intended to improve visitor facilities, strengthen tourism infrastructure and encourage community participation through homestay-based entrepreneurship.
Kesaria Stupa Development Project
The Kesaria Buddhist Stupa, one of the world’s largest Buddhist stupas, is being developed as a tourism destination over an area of around 75 acres.
The state government has approved infrastructure development works worth around Rs 19.77 crore. The project includes the construction of a cafeteria, a tourist facilitation centre and parking facilities.
Officials said replicas of eight major Buddhist sites will also be developed within the complex to offer visitors a broader introduction to Buddhist heritage.
Sitakund Dham To Receive Tourism Infrastructure
The Tourism Department has also granted administrative approval for the development of Sitakund Dham, a site associated with historical and mythological traditions.
The project includes the construction of an entrance gate, a temple and other visitor facilities aimed at improving the experience of pilgrims and tourists.
Homestay Scheme To Support Local Employment
Both destinations have been included under the Chief Minister Homestay Promotion Scheme, which encourages residents living near tourist attractions to convert part of their homes into registered homestays.
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries can receive a subsidy of Rs 2.50 lakh per room, subject to a maximum assistance of Rs 10 lakh for up to four rooms. Women and young beneficiaries are also eligible for an additional incentive of Rs 25,000 per room.
Benefits Limited To Nearby Residents
According to the government, the scheme will be available to households located within a five-kilometre radius of the notified tourist sites.
Officials said the initiative is expected to promote local culture, cuisine and handicrafts while creating employment opportunities in hospitality, transport, tourist guiding and other tourism-related services, contributing to the local economy of East Champaran.
