Lakhisarai: A 35-year-old private employee working at Union Bank in Lakhisarai, was found dead on Wednesday morning in what police believe to be a case of suicide.
The man, identified as Surendra Kumar, also known as Nikku, a resident of Lodiya village was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan inside the bank branch shortly after staff arrived for work. According to police, Kumar had entered the bank earlier with the keys, locking the main gate from inside. When colleagues arrived, they received no response to repeated calls, prompting them to break open the door and find him.
CCTV footage recovered from the branch shows Kumar preparing a noose before taking his life, officers said. His body has been sent to Lakhisarai Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination. Police sealed the premises, collected evidence and began questioning staff members.
The news quickly drew a large crowd of locals to the site. Colleagues described Kumar as cheerful and sociable, saying the incident had come as a shock.
Sadar police station’s officer-in-charge said initial findings pointed to suicide but added that “all aspects are being investigated”. The cause of death would be confirmed after the postmortem and statements from family members, he said.
