Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad has encountered further legal complications as a Siwan court has ordered the initiation of an asset attachment process in a 2011 election code of conduct violation case.
The case stems from an incident during the 2011 Bihar Assembly elections, where Lalu allegedly addressed a public meeting in Daraunda, Siwan, despite the enforcement of Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code and a ban on the use of loudspeakers.
At the time, Lalu, then serving as Railway Minister, delivered a speech in support of RJD candidate Parmeshwar Singh for Assembly constituency number 109, Daraunda. The location of the meeting was already under Section 144, prohibiting public gatherings, and the use of loudspeakers was also expressly forbidden. However, Lalu proceeded to address the gathering using a loudspeaker, leading to the registration of a case against him for violating the election code of conduct.
Due to Lalu’s persistent absence from court proceedings related to this case, the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) First, Siwan, issued proclamation notice on Friday to commence the asset attachment process. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for May 30. This order signifies a significant escalation in the legal proceedings and could result in the seizure of Lalu’s properties if he continues to disregard court summons.
