Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav stole the spotlight in Sasaram today as he launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, urging voters to “remove the thieves, chase away the BJP” ahead of the Bihar assembly elections.
Speaking at the launch of the opposition’s voter rights yatra, Lalu revived his familiar rally style that once defined Bihar politics. Mixing satire with sharp criticism, he declared: “Lagal-lagal jhulniya mein dhaaga, balam Calcutta chala” – a Bhojpuri folk line implying that opponents would be pushed far away.
“BJP has been stealing elections and it should not be allowed to remain in power at any cost. Everyone must unite, uproot this government and strengthen democracy,” Lalu told the cheering crowd.
The veteran leader’s presence drew loud slogans in support of the INDIA bloc, with chants of “Rahul Gandhi Zindabad, Tejashwi Yadav Zindabad, Kharge Zindabad” echoing across the Suara Airport Ground. His performance-style politics, long absent from Bihar’s stage, signalled both a symbolic comeback and a rallying call for unity.
Leaders from across the opposition alliance, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, CPI(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya and VIP chief Mukesh Sahni, shared the stage. But it was Lalu’s biting lines and crowd-rousing charisma that defined the launch, setting the tone for the campaign ahead.
