Patna: The Bihar government plans to provide students of the Lalit Narayan Mishra Institute of Economic Development and Social Change (LNMI) with international exposure through the proposed ‘Ganga to Global’ initiative, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said on August 12.

Under the initiative, around 100 students will undertake one-month exposure visits during each academic session, giving them an opportunity to learn from reputed institutions in India and abroad.

Choudhary made the announcement while inaugurating the ‘Aagaaz-2026’ induction and orientation programme for newly enrolled LNMI students. He also honoured six gold medalists from the 2026 graduating batch and launched the institute’s Learning Management System.

Global Exposure For LNMI Students

The Chief Minister said Bihar has substantial talent among its young population, but students need access to quality education, modern skills and opportunities aligned with global standards.

According to Choudhary, the ‘Ganga to Global’ concept will expose students to the functioning, knowledge systems and distinctive practices of prestigious institutions.

The proposed one-month visits are intended to give students practical exposure beyond the classroom and connect their academic learning with international practices.

Student Strength To Rise From 1,600 To 3,000

Around 1,600 students are currently enrolled at LNMI, according to the state government.

Choudhary said efforts are underway to increase the institute’s student capacity to around 3,000. Admissions to the institute are based on performance in competitive examinations including CAT and MAT.

The government is also working to address the institute’s land requirements. According to the announcement, one acre proposed by the Building Construction Department will be allocated to LNMI.

Three New Centres Planned

The institute is set to expand its focus on emerging areas of technology, urban development and governance.

A Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence, a Centre for Urban Policy and Governance, and a Quantum Computer Centre are planned at LNMI.

The proposed centres are expected to support advanced learning and research in areas including AI, public policy, urban development, administration and governance.

10 Acres Proposed For Satellite Campus

The Chief Minister also announced that 10 acres of land in the proposed new township will be made available to LNMI for a satellite campus.

The proposed campus is intended to provide additional space as the institute expands its student strength and academic activities.

Learning Management System Launched

Choudhary launched LNMI’s Learning Management System during the orientation programme.

He told students that technology is rapidly changing education and other sectors and stressed the importance of developing modern skills alongside formal academic qualifications.

Bihar’s Wider Education Expansion

The Chief Minister also referred to several other education initiatives of the state government.

He said degree colleges have been established in all administrative blocks and that academic classes began on August 10 at the 211 degree colleges inaugurated on July 15.

He also referred to the launch of 551 model schools and the government’s plan to enable online learning from August 15. According to the announcement, students will be able to attend online classes, interact with teachers and prepare for examinations beyond regular classroom hours.

Focus On Technology And Bihar’s Development

Choudhary urged students to remain connected with Bihar and contribute to the state’s development regardless of where they live or work.

He also highlighted the role of technology in governance and development, referring to initiatives related to flood management, water resources and infrastructure.

The Chief Minister said industrial development would be important for Bihar’s economic growth and urged students to focus on their education and skills as they prepare for future careers.

Officials And Students Attend Aagaaz-2026

Dr N. Vijayalakshmi, Additional Chief Secretary of the Planning and Development Department and Director of LNMI, welcomed the Chief Minister during the programme.

Urban Development and Housing and Information Technology Minister Nitish Mishra, LNMI Director N. Vijayalakshmi and Aryabhatta Knowledge University’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Sharad Kumar Yadav also addressed the event.

Three students from the 2026 batch shared their views during the programme. A short film on LNMI was also screened.
