Patna: Rail passengers in Bihar’s border districts may soon see improved connectivity as the Railways has initiated the process for developing key infrastructure at the Laukaha Bazar railway station in Madhubani district, close to the Nepal border.
The Railways has issued a tender for the construction of a washing pit and a shunting line at the station. The development is expected to pave the way for the operation of long-distance trains from Laukaha Bazar in the coming years.
JD(U) Executive President and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Jha shared the information through a post on social media platform X.

Construction Expected Within 15 Months
According to Jha, the construction work is likely to be completed within around 15 months after the tender process concludes. He said the project is expected to take shape on the ground by the latter half of 2027.
At present, Laukaha Bazar station operates limited rail services. Railway officials and local representatives believe the addition of a washing pit facility will allow long-distance trains to originate or terminate at the station, improving travel options for passengers in North Bihar and nearby border areas.
Boost to Connectivity and Local Economy
The proposed infrastructure is expected to strengthen rail connectivity in the Mithilanchal region and adjoining districts along the Nepal border.
Local stakeholders anticipate that improved rail services could also support trade, tourism and economic activity in the region by enhancing transportation links.
Demand Raised Before Railway Ministry
Jha stated that he had met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on September 12, 2024, and submitted a memorandum seeking expansion of the rail network in North Bihar, an increase in train services and better passenger amenities.
The memorandum also included a demand for the construction of a washing pit at Loukaha Bazar railway station.
Jha described the approval of the project as an important step towards infrastructure development in Mithilanchal and Bihar’s border regions.
