New Delhi/ Patna : The PRAKRITI Society for Environment Consciousness of Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi, in collaboration with Extra-C, organised an environment-themed crossword workshop and contest on October 1 at the college’s New Common Room.
The initiative combined environmental awareness with the intellectual challenge of crossword solving, giving students an opportunity to explore environment-related themes while learning the fundamentals of cryptic crosswords.
Students Learn the Basics of Cryptic Crosswords
The workshop and contest were conducted by Vinayak Ekbote, Vice President of the Crossword Association of Delhi (CWAD).
Students were introduced to key aspects of crossword solving, including wordplay, interpretation of clues and logical deduction. The workshop was followed by a competitive crossword contest in which participating teams put their newly acquired skills to use.
Contest Links Environmental Awareness With Critical Thinking
The PRAKRITI Society works to promote environmental consciousness among students through educational and interactive activities.
The collaboration with Extra-C added a problem-solving dimension to the initiative, using crossword puzzles to encourage vocabulary development, logical reasoning, analytical thinking, lateral thinking and problem-solving skills.
The environment-focused theme also encouraged students to engage with issues related to environmental consciousness and sustainability in an interactive format.
Nazneen Parveen and Sakshi Kumari Win Contest
Students participated enthusiastically in the crossword contest, with three teams securing the top positions.
The winners were:
- Winners: Nazneen Parveen and Sakshi Kumari
- Runner-up: Moni Kumari and Sakshi Chopra
- Second Runner-up: Suruchi Rathore and Anshu Priya
Event Held Under Principal’s Guidance
The event was held under the guidance of Prof. Kanika K. Ahuja, Principal of Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi.
Prof. Tripti Bassi and Dr. Neha Sharma, Convenors of the PRAKRITI Society, facilitated the initiative.
The event was also supported by the PRAKRITI Society Union, led by President Muskan Bharti, General Secretary Ishmeen Kaur and Treasurer Happy Choudhary.
Crosswords Used as an Innovative Learning Tool
The organisers said the successful workshop and contest demonstrated how crosswords can be used as an engaging educational activity while introducing students to contemporary themes.
By combining environmental awareness with vocabulary, reasoning and analytical skills, the initiative provided students with an interactive approach to learning about sustainability and environmental consciousness.
