Patna: Maghi Purnima is being celebrated today across the country with great devotion and faith. From early morning, large crowds were seen at riverbanks, especially along the Ganges and at river confluences. People believe that taking a holy bath on this day washes away sins and brings peace of mind. This year’s Maghi Purnima is considered very special because four rare and auspicious yogas — Pushya Nakshatra, Preeti Yoga, Ayushman Yoga and Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga — are happening together. Many astrologers say such a combination occurs only once in many years, making today even more powerful for prayer and charity.
Devotees arrived before sunrise to take a dip in the holy river. Those who could not travel mixed Ganges water into their bath at home. Families also performed Satyanarayan Puja, offered flowers, lit lamps, and prayed for health and happiness. In many homes, people lit ghee lamps near the Tulsi plant, which is believed to bring prosperity and positive energy. People also donated food, clothes and money, as giving charity on this day is considered very rewarding.
Astrologer Rakesh Jha said that on Maghi Purnima, all the gods are believed to reside in the Ganges water. “Even touching the holy water today brings blessings,” he said. He added that bathing in the Ganges removes sorrows and negative energy. According to him, chanting mantras, performing havan, reading scriptures and serving the needy on this day give special spiritual benefits.
Pushya Nakshatra is considered the most auspicious of all constellations. It is connected to Jupiter, the planet of wisdom and good fortune, and Saturn, which represents discipline and strength. Because of this, today is seen as a good day to start new work, begin studies, receive spiritual teachings, perform rituals, donate books and even plan journeys. Many people also believe that the full moon’s light today brings good health and calmness.
Pandit Jha explained that on Maghi Purnima, the moon shines with full power, and its rays are believed to carry healing energy. “This nectar-like light falls on rivers, trees and plants, which is why they are considered pure and powerful today,” he said. He also said that bathing and giving charity on this day helps reduce the negative effects of the sun and moon in a person’s life. For devotees, Maghi Purnima is not just a festival, but a day of hope, faith and spiritual renewal.
