Muzaffarpur: Bihar Sports and Industries Minister Shreyasi Singh inspected sports and industrial infrastructure in Muzaffarpur on Tuesday, where she expressed dissatisfaction over the condition of facilities at the Khel Bhawan in Sikandarpur.
The minister first visited the Bela Industrial Area and reviewed operations at a factory, taking stock of industrial activities and infrastructure arrangements. She later proceeded to the Khel Bhawan, where district sports officials and athletes received her.
Dusty Equipment Draws Minister’s Criticism
During the inspection of the gym complex, Singh found dust accumulated on several machines, including treadmills, and questioned officials over the upkeep of the facility.
“If you are receiving a salary, why is dust allowed to gather on the gym equipment? Why is proper attention not being paid to maintenance?” she asked staff members during the visit.
Officials were instructed to ensure regular cleaning and proper maintenance of the equipment and premises.
Government Focus On Sports Infrastructure
Singh said the Bihar government was prioritising improved facilities for athletes and would not tolerate negligence in sports-related infrastructure.
She said the government planned to review sports development work across districts and address deficiencies wherever identified.
“This initiative has been launched in Muzaffarpur, and the government is continuously working to provide modern facilities to athletes,” the minister said.
Inspection Of Nehru Stadium
The minister also visited the cricket ground at Nehru Stadium in Sikandarpur to assess arrangements and ongoing infrastructure development.
During the inspection, local athletes and residents pointed out shortcomings in the existing sports facilities and requested improvements.
Swimming Pool Building Found Locked
While reviewing the stadium premises, Singh noticed that the newly constructed swimming pool building was locked.
She instructed officials to open the facility, but the keys could not be produced despite waiting for nearly 10 minutes. Officials later informed her that the building had not yet been formally handed over, which was why it remained inaccessible.
