Patna: A minor boy is undergoing treatment in Patna after being stabbed in the chest in an alleged drunken attack in Bihar’s Barh subdivision, police said.
The incident took place late at night in Ranabigha village, under the jurisdiction of Barh police station, where a group of men had reportedly gathered near a local godown to drink alcohol. According to local accounts, one of the men asked the boy, identified as Rajiv Kumar, to bring water.
When the boy refused, the accused – identified by villagers as Vikas, also known as “Bhuppi” – allegedly became enraged and stabbed him in the chest with a knife.
Residents said they rushed to the scene after hearing the boy’s screams, but the attackers fled before they could be apprehended.
The injured child was first taken to the Barh sub-divisional hospital. Doctors attempted to remove the weapon but, citing the severity of the injury, referred him to a hospital in Patna for specialised treatment while the knife remained lodged in his chest.
Police said they were alerted through emergency services and have since launched a search operation to trace the accused. Raids were conducted overnight in the village, though no arrests had been reported at the time of writing.
Family members of the victim alleged that police response was delayed, saying officers arrived at the hospital after the boy had already been referred to Patna. Authorities said an investigation is under way.
