Patna: Authorities in Patna have issued demolition notices to dozens of homes in the Rajpur area, ordering residents to vacate within 30 days as part of a crackdown on alleged illegal construction.
Officials from the municipal corporation have marked several buildings with red signs declaring them slated for demolition, warning occupants to either remove the structures themselves or face enforced action. Utility services, including water and electricity, are expected to be disconnected within days, according to the notices.
The drive follows a warning from Samrat Choudhary, who said authorities would act firmly against encroachments on government land. Local officials say the operation is being carried out in line with regulations and will continue in other parts of the city.
Residents, however, describe an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. Many families say they have nowhere else to go and are struggling to respond to what they see as abrupt eviction orders. In some homes, preparations for upcoming weddings have been disrupted, with households now facing the prospect of displacement alongside major personal events.
Speaking on the wider bulldozer drive in Bihar, union minister Chirag Paswan said action against illegal structures was justified but cautioned that due process must be followed. He added that no family should be harassed if they have legitimate ownership rights, and called for alternative arrangements to be made for poorer residents before any demolition takes place.
Despite these concerns, the administration maintains that the measures are necessary to curb unauthorised construction and insists that enforcement will proceed as planned.
