Patna: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture will visit Bihar from August 23 to 26 to review the development and maintenance of National Highways (NH) and assess air connectivity in the state.
The committee, chaired by JD(U) Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Jha, will also travel along the newly constructed Mithapur-Mahuli elevated corridor during its visit. This will be the first time the entire committee will traverse the corridor during a visit to Bihar.
Mithapur-Mahuli Corridor To Be Inspected
The regional office of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has written to the Bihar State Road Development Corporation (BSRDC) regarding preparations for the committee’s visit.
According to the proposed route, the committee will travel through the Mithapur Overbridge and enter the Mithapur-Mahuli elevated corridor. It will then proceed through the Mahuli ROB service road towards NH-22, the Patna-Gaya road.
The construction of the Mithapur-Mahuli elevated corridor was recently completed. The committee is also scheduled to visit Gaya as part of its Bihar tour.
Patna-Gaya-Dobhi Highway To Be Reviewed
The committee will also travel along the Patna-Gaya-Dobhi four-lane highway. In preparation for the visit, concerned district administrations have been instructed to remove encroachments along the route.
Officials have also been directed to ensure that the road remains in proper condition and that traffic movement is managed smoothly during the visit.
Review Of National Highway Development
During its Bihar visit, the committee will review the development and maintenance of National Highways in the state.
Meetings with officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Bihar Road Construction Department are proposed as part of the review.
The discussions are expected to cover the progress of NH projects, maintenance and related infrastructure requirements in Bihar.
Air Connectivity Also On Agenda
The committee will also assess the status of air connectivity in Bihar.
Meetings with officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the state government are scheduled to discuss expansion of air connectivity and the status of related plans in the state.
Committee Has 41 Members
The Parliamentary Standing Committee comprises 10 Rajya Sabha members and 31 Lok Sabha members.
Besides chairperson Sanjay Jha, the Rajya Sabha members listed include Sudha Murty, G Baburao, Mohammad Nadimul Haque, Jagesh, K Jhala, S Kalyanasundaram, S Phangnon Konyak, Surendra Singh Nagar and Imran Pratapgarhi.
The Lok Sabha members include Mian Altaf Ahmad, P Barua, RK Chaudhary, Anil Firojiya, Tapir Gao, Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, Rahul Kaswan, June Maliah, Ajay Kumar Mandal, KE Prakash, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, MP Abdussamad Samadani, Kumari Selja, Abhimanyu Sethi, Anurag Sharma, Suresh Kumar Shetkar, Tangella Uday Srinivas, Devesh Chandra Thakur, Amar Singh Tisso, Manoj Tiwari and KC Venugopal, among others.
