Munger/Patna: Three people were killed after a speeding car drove on the wrong side of the road and crashed into a roadside garage in Munger district on Tuesday, police said.
The incident took place near Teliya Talab, where the vehicle reportedly lost control before ploughing into the workshop. Three men working inside the garage were struck and died at the scene.
The victims were identified as Mohammad Shahid, also known as Tinku, a resident of Minnat Nagar; Mohammad Arman Alam of Banauda; and Raja of Nauvagarhi in the Naya Ramnagar police station area.
Witnesses said the three men were engaged in routine work when the car suddenly entered the garage at high speed, leaving little time for anyone to react.
Angry crowd damages vehicle
The crash triggered panic in the area, with local residents rushing to the spot soon after the collision. As news of the deaths spread, a large crowd gathered and damaged the car in anger.
Residents later blocked the Munger-Bhagalpur main road in protest, disrupting traffic for several hours.
Locals were also angered by reports that the driver and other occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled immediately after the crash.
Police examine CCTV footage
Station House Officer Bipin Kumar Singh reached the site with police personnel and began efforts to restore order.
Police have seized the damaged vehicle and launched a search to identify and trace the driver and others who were inside the car.
Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area as part of the inquiry
