Patna: Patna’s popular Ganga Path, also known as Marine Drive, is going to see a major transformation as the authorities plan to develop a modern vending and entertainment zone along the riverside stretch. The project will be built on around 1.93 acres of land near the Digha Roundabout and Atal Path. Officials say the main aim is to remove encroachments, reduce traffic congestion, and create a more organised and attractive public space for both residents and visitors.
The project will be completed in two phases. In the first phase, focus will be on shifting and settling around 250 shopkeepers to the new designated vending area. For this, basic infrastructure like cement concrete roads and paver blocks will be laid to mark proper spaces for each shopkeeper. The administration has set a target of May 15 to complete this relocation process so that work can move forward smoothly.
In the second phase, the area will be developed into a full entertainment and leisure zone. Plans include a dedicated kids’ zone, an open entertainment area, and an amphitheatre where small cultural events can be held. The project will also feature selfie points, which are expected to attract young visitors and families, turning the riverside stretch into a popular recreational destination.
Along with entertainment facilities, the project will also focus on basic public services. Parking areas, drinking water facilities, and public toilets will be built for convenience. High-mast lighting and decorative lights will be installed to improve safety and visibility during evening hours. Officials also plan to develop greenery and landscaping to make the area more pleasant and visually appealing.
The total cost of the project is estimated at several crore rupees, including around Rs 2.96 crore for construction and lighting work. An additional Rs 59 lakh has been allocated for the relocation of shopkeepers and initial arrangements. After receiving the necessary approval from the Danapur Circle Officer, the project has picked up pace. The municipal corporation says the goal is to make the Ganga Path fully organised, free from encroachments, and developed as a modern public space for the city.
