Muzaffarpur/Patna: A free legal services assistance centre has been launched at Shaheed Khudiram Bose Central Jail in Muzaffarpur to provide legal support to inmates and their families.
The initiative aims to ensure that relatives visiting prisoners can access legal advice within the jail premises instead of travelling to different offices or courts for assistance.
Inaugurated by district judiciary officials
The centre was inaugurated jointly by Principal District and Sessions Judge Shweta Kumari Singh and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) secretary Tej Kumar Prasad.
During the inauguration, judicial and prison officials said the facility would help families who struggle to understand legal procedures and pursue court cases due to financial or social constraints.
Legal advice to be available inside jail premises
Jail superintendent Yusuf Rizwan said family members visiting inmates would now be able to consult experienced lawyers and legal volunteers free of cost at the new centre.
He said the initiative would particularly benefit economically weaker families by making legal guidance more accessible.
Existing legal support for inmates expanded
Officials from the District Legal Services Authority said a legal aid centre for convicted and undertrial prisoners has already been functioning inside the jail.
The newly opened facility near the visitors’ area is intended to extend support directly to prisoners’ relatives as well.
Senior jail officials, including deputy superintendents Amar Satyam and Arvind Kumar, were present during the inauguration ceremony.
