Muzaffarpur: The Muzaffarpur administration has launched a new colour-coded system for auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws in a bid to streamline traffic and reduce congestion in the city. The initiative was flagged off on Saturday at Muzaffarpur Junction by District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen and Senior Superintendent of Police Sushil Kumar.
Under the trial scheme, which will run for two weeks, a total of 4,800 auto and e-rickshaws have been assigned specific routes and colour codes. Of these, 4,200 vehicles are tied to designated routes, while 600 vehicles are placed in a “free zone” category, marked with white colour, to operate across different areas.
The city has been divided into three zones and one free zone, with 20 routes in total. Each route has been allocated a distinct colour, enabling passengers to easily identify which vehicles travel in which direction.
Officials said the trial period will allow authorities to assess operational challenges and make necessary adjustments. From the first week of January, strict action will be taken against drivers who flout the rules.
“The introduction of the colour-coded system is expected to significantly ease congestion and facilitate smoother movement across the city,” the administration said.
