Muzaffarpur, 15th October 2023: A local celebration over India’s win against Pakistan in a Cricket World Cup match took a violent turn in the Purani Gudri area on Saturday evening, leading to police intervention. The dispute escalated rapidly, involving swords and sticks, and resulting in severe injuries.
According to reports, the clash began after youths from one party began bursting firecrackers in celebration of India’s victory over Pakistan. Another young man from a different group objected to the firecrackers, citing health concerns for sick members in his household. Tempers flared and a physical altercation ensued.
Shubham, a local resident, sustained injuries when his finger was severed by a sword during the melee. Bystanders rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
City Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Awadhesh Saroj Dixit arrived at the scene with reinforcements from multiple police stations, owing to the volatile situation. He successfully defused the tension between both parties and assured that the situation had been brought under control.
In an official statement, Muzaffarpur Police urged residents not to pay attention to rumors and to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship. “Let the game remain in the spirit of the game and maintain mutual harmony,” the statement read.
The police are conducting further investigations and are in the process of identifying individuals involved in the violent confrontation.
