Muzaffarpur: A major fire broke out on Thursday morning at Prasad Hospital in the Brahampura area of Muzaffarpur, triggering panic inside the medical facility and leading to multiple casualties.

According to initial information, the blaze originated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on the fifth floor and spread rapidly across sections of the hospital. Thick smoke engulfed the building, forcing patients and attendants to rush for safety.

Casualties and Rescue Operations

At least five people have died in the incident, while more than 30 patients have sustained injuries, several of them reported to be serious. Hospital staff and emergency responders evacuated patients and shifted the injured to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Officials said rescue operations were carried out immediately after the fire was reported, and efforts are ongoing to ensure proper medical care for all affected patients.

Chief Minister’s Response

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed grief over the incident and extended condolences to the families of the deceased. He described the loss of lives in the hospital fire as deeply unfortunate.

— Samrat Choudhary (@samrat4bjp) June 4, 2026

In a post on social media platform X, he stated that the incident involved the deaths of four individuals and conveyed sympathies to the bereaved families. However, initial ground reports indicated five fatalities, reflecting a discrepancy in early assessments.

Compensation and Administrative Measures

The Chief Minister announced an ex gratia assistance of Rs 4 lakh for the families of each deceased person. He also directed authorities to ensure proper treatment for the injured and maintain alertness in the ongoing response.

Officials said arrangements have been strengthened at nearby government hospitals, including Sadar Hospital, to manage the influx of patients and provide necessary care.

The state administration has initiated a review of safety protocols in private hospitals following the incident.
