Muzaffarpur: Residents of Muzaffarpur have raised concerns over irregularities in the public distribution system after being given only one month’s ration, despite a government announcement promising supplies for two months.
The distribution was meant to cover the period from May to August, with beneficiaries expected to receive two months’ worth of ration at a time. However, locals report that they are being provided with only one month’s ration, and in some areas, even June’s allocation has not arrived.
“There is complete confusion. We don’t even know which month’s ration we are receiving,” said one consumer. “They take our thumbprint and hand over one month’s ration, but when we ask for more, the dealers claim there is no stock in the warehouse.”
Ration vendors in several wards say the government’s digital system shows allocations, but physical stock is not arriving. “The machine shows that the stock is allotted, but we have not received it yet. We cannot distribute what is not here,” said one ration dealer.
Uday Narayan Prasad, District Warehouse Manager of the State Food Corporation (SFC), confirmed that 95% of June’s ration and 20% of July’s stock have been dispatched to vendors. He assured that the remaining stock, including that of August, would be made available by June 30.
He also pointed out that poor communication about the distribution schedule may have contributed to the confusion. “Lack of awareness is causing distress among beneficiaries,” he said.
Residents, meanwhile, are growing increasingly anxious. With prices of essential commodities rising, the delay in receiving government-supplied food grains is putting pressure on already strained households. Many are now demanding clear and immediate communication from officials, as well as timely delivery of the promised supplies.
