Muzaffarpur: A revenue department employee in Muzaffarpur was arrested on Wednesday after being caught accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 during a vigilance operation.
The arrest took place at a revenue camp in Baidyanathpur Panchayat Bhawan, Sahibganj Municipal Council area, where the employee, identified as Ravi Kumar, allegedly demanded money from a local resident for clearing land-related paperwork. According to officials, Kumar initially demanded Rs 1,00,000 but later settled for Rs 20,000.
The vigilance team confirmed the complaint, laid a trap, and apprehended Kumar as soon as he accepted the cash. The operation caused commotion at the camp, with locals expressing long-standing grievances about corruption in land matters.
Officials said the complaint was filed on September 15 and verified the following day. Kumar was taken into custody and transported to Patna for further legal proceedings.
Locals in the area have alleged that bribery in land-related procedures has been a persistent problem, with Wednesday’s arrest seen as a significant step in tackling corruption at the grassroots level.
