Muzaffarpur/Patna:The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has accelerated the land acquisition process for the proposed widening and four-laning of the Muzaffarpur–Sonbarsa section of National Highway 22.
According to officials, NHAI has written to several circle offices in Muzaffarpur district seeking detailed records related to land parcels identified for acquisition under the project.
Details sought from local revenue offices
The authority has requested updated information on current raiyats (landholders) and jamabandi numbers linked to the concerned plots. The records have been sought from the circle offices of Aurai, Muraul, Bochaha and Minapur.
Officials said the information is required to finalise the acquisition process for villages falling along the proposed highway expansion corridor.
The communication from NHAI also directed local authorities to ensure verification of all land records before they are submitted to the land acquisition office to avoid technical discrepancies and procedural delays.
Push to expedite acquisition process
The move is being seen as part of efforts to speed up preparatory work for the infrastructure project, which is expected to improve road connectivity in north Bihar.
Once completed, the four-lane corridor is expected to ease travel between Muzaffarpur and Sonbarsa and reduce traffic congestion on the existing route.
Improved connectivity towards Nepal border
The upgraded highway is also likely to benefit vehicles travelling towards the Nepal border by improving traffic flow and reducing travel time.
Officials said the project is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and support smoother movement of passengers and commercial transport in the area.
