Rajgir: Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar, celebrated the 79th Independence Day on Friday with a mix of patriotic pride, cultural programmes, and academic highlights. Vice Chancellor Professor Sachin Chaturvedi unfurled the national flag, followed by the national anthem sung by students and a march past by the university’s security guards.

In his speech, Professor Chaturvedi spoke about India’s progress over the years and the important role of young people in building the country’s future. He said Nalanda University welcomes students from more than 20 countries, creating an environment of harmony, diversity, and shared learning.

Guests including Ambassador Abhay K., educationist Vivekanand Pai, policy expert Hemang Jani, and social entrepreneur Manohar Shinde addressed the gathering. They spoke about leadership, social responsibility, and how education can bring change. A special ceremony, Gyana Daṇḍa Pratiṣṭhā, with Vedic recitals was also held to symbolise the blend of ancient knowledge and modern education.

The event featured music, dance, and art performances celebrating India’s heritage. The university also shared its recent achievements, including more than 50 research publications in two months, participation in global conferences, and new initiatives like the Integrated Incubation Centre and the Centre for Studies in Development and Sustainability. Through community projects and sustainability efforts, Nalanda reaffirmed its commitment to building a better and inclusive future.
