Patna: Mahavir Mandir in Patna will host elaborate celebrations for Shri Krishna Janmashtami, with the festivities beginning at 9pm on the temple’s second floor in front of the statue of Lord Krishna with archer Arjun. The evening will feature bhajans and kirtans, culminating in a special midnight puja to mark the birth of Lord Krishna.
Flowers for the decorations are being brought specially from Kolkata, while 4,000kg of Naivedyam prasad will be prepared for distribution among devotees. According to temple priest Pandit Bhavanath Jha, devotees traditionally fast on Janmashtami and break their fast after the symbolic birth of Krishna at midnight. The celebration follows the Hindu calendar, marking the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada, under the Rohini constellation.
Sayan Kunal, a member of the Bihar State Religious Trust Council and the Mahavir Temple Trust Committee, said the day’s programme will also include recitations of the Bhagwat, the Gita and devotional songs from 10.30am, with the main aarti to be held precisely at midnight.
