Rajgir: Nalanda University, Rajgir, in collaboration with Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, New Delhi, will organise a two-day National Symposium on ‘Role of Indian Knowledge Tradition in Building a Developed India’ on September 21 and 22.
The symposium will examine the contemporary relevance of Indian knowledge traditions and their potential contribution to education, research, innovation, social development, sustainable development and responses to global challenges.
Inaugural Session On September 21
The symposium will be inaugurated at 11am on September 21 at the Vishwamitra Auditorium of Nalanda University.
Lieutenant General (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain, Governor of Bihar, will be the chief guest and deliver the inaugural address.
Nalanda University Vice Chancellor Professor Sachin Chaturvedi will provide the thematic introduction to the symposium.
Eminent educationist Professor Ramesh Bhardwaj will deliver the introductory remarks, while Professor Bhushan Patwardhan, former Vice Chairman of the University Grants Commission, will attend as the guest of honour.
Dr Atul Kothari, National Secretary of Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, will also deliver a special address during the inaugural session.
‘Nalanda-Bodh’ Lecture
Following the inaugural session, a special ‘Nalanda-Bodh’ lecture will be held.
Dr Atul Kothari will deliver the lecture on ‘Indian Knowledge Tradition and Nalanda-Bodh’.
From Indian Languages To Sustainable Development
The two-day symposium will discuss the integration of Indian knowledge traditions with modern education and research.
Other themes will include developing Indian languages as active languages of knowledge creation and research, digitisation and translation of Indian texts, and their study using contemporary research methodologies.
The discussions will also cover environmental conservation, sustainable development, social inclusion and technological advancement.
The symposium will explore contributions from diverse knowledge traditions, including the Vedas, Upanishads, Indian philosophy, Buddhist logic, Ayurveda, mathematics, astronomy, grammar, architecture, agriculture, water management, art, literature and traditional knowledge systems.
Nalanda’s Legacy Of Knowledge And Dialogue
The organisation of the symposium at Nalanda University carries particular academic significance, drawing on the legacy of ancient Nalanda as a centre of knowledge, reasoning, dialogue and international intellectual exchange.
The modern Nalanda University continues to focus on international academic collaboration, interdisciplinary learning and contemporary knowledge creation.
The university’s ‘Sahabhagita’ initiative also seeks to strengthen engagement between knowledge institutions and society through education, skill development and knowledge exchange.
Linking Knowledge Tradition With Viksit Bharat 2047
The symposium will seek to facilitate dialogue between Indian knowledge traditions and modern scientific thought while examining the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 in the broader context of knowledge, research, innovation, human values and social responsibility.
Academicians, researchers and scholars from across the country are expected to participate and exchange ideas on emerging possibilities for knowledge and its application in contemporary India.
