Patna: Bihar’s police administration has undergone a major reshuffle on Friday with transfer of 71 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, including Navjot Simi, a 2018-batch officer, appointed as the new superintendent of police (SP) of Arwal district.
Simi replaces the outgoing officer after serving as commandant of Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP)-19 in Begusarai. Known for a work style that emphasises public engagement and discipline, she has held a range of operational and leadership roles since joining the service.
Born on December 21, 1987, in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, Simi was educated in government schools before training as a dentist. She completed a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in Ludhiana and initially planned to pursue a master’s degree, but financial constraints prompted a shift towards civil services.
After reaching the interview stage in her first UPSC attempt in 2016, she cleared the examination the following year with an all-India rank of 735, securing entry into the IPS. She trained at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad and began her career as an assistant superintendent of police in Patna.
An IPS officer with a significant public profile, Simi is also widely followed on social media, where she shares fitness routines and aspects of police life, making her a role model for many young aspirants, particularly women. She has more than a million followers on Instagram.
Simi is married to Tushar Singla, a 2015-batch IAS officer currently serving as district magistrate of Begusarai. The couple have a young son.
Her appointment is seen by officials as significant for Arwal, with expectations that she will focus on law and order, administrative discipline and community policing as the district navigates ongoing governance and security challenges.
