Patna: The death of a student preparing for the NEET medical entrance exam while residing in a Patna hostel has sparked widespread concern, prompting the state government to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Jan Suraaj convenor Prashant Kishor met with Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma on Saturday to discuss the case, accompanied by several relatives of the deceased. Kishor had earlier visited the victim’s family in Jehanabad on Friday.
Speaking to the media, Kishor thanked the Nitish Kumar government for establishing the SIT and called for a thorough investigation. He highlighted two key concerns: the role of the female officer who initially handled the case, and the FIR registered against family members and students who protested near Kargil Chowk at Gandhi Maidan.
The SSP assured Kishor that action would be taken where appropriate and promised a humane approach toward those involved in the protest. “No harsh action will be taken against those against whom the FIR was registered,” Kishor said.
He emphasised that the family’s grievances had been presented to the government and administration, adding, “The victim’s family cannot be suppressed by considering them weak. We stand with them.”
Kishor also suggested that public outrage reflected lapses in the initial handling of the case and pledged that further action would follow if the family remained unsatisfied.
The meeting was attended by Kishore Kumar Munna, Subhash Kumar Kushwaha, Rambali Chandravanshi, JP Singh, Manish Kashyap, Sarwar Ali, and others.
