Patna: More than 1.6 lakh candidates appeared for the NEET UG 2026 examination across Bihar on Sunday, as authorities implemented extensive security arrangements at over 150 centres spread across 35 districts.
Nationwide, nearly 23 lakh students are taking part in the examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency across 552 cities in India and 14 international locations.
Entry Closed After Rigorous Checks
Entry to examination centres was closed ahead of the 2pm start, with candidates subjected to multiple layers of screening. In several centres, including in Muzaffarpur, female candidates were asked to remove nose pins and other accessories, while male candidates underwent checks using metal detectors.
Candidates were allowed to enter without footwear, and water bottles were permitted only after labels were removed. Parents and guardians were kept at a distance from examination premises to maintain order.
Strict Ban On Electronic Devices
The NTA has imposed a comprehensive ban on electronic items inside examination halls. Prohibited items include mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, earphones, calculators, pen drives, digital watches, fitness bands and any form of wireless or chip-based gadgets.
Officials said even small or concealed electronic circuits are being carefully screened during the entry process.
Heightened Vigilance Measures
Candidates were required to pass through metal detectors, and in some cases, additional physical checks were carried out. Female candidates were asked to open hair buns for inspection, while jewellery and accessories such as wristbands and watches had to be removed before entry.
Authorities said these measures were necessary to prevent cheating and ensure the integrity of the examination process.
Exam Schedule And Scope
The examination is being conducted from 2:00pm to 5:20pm. Officials said the tightened protocols this year are part of broader efforts to enhance transparency and prevent irregularities in one of India’s largest entrance examinations.
