Nalanda: The National Investigation Agency (NIA), along with local police, conducted early morning raids at multiple locations in Bihar’s Nalanda district on Monday as part of an operation targeting an alleged illegal arms network.
One of the key searches is being carried out at PK Gun House located near Post Office Mor in Bihar Sharif town. The joint team of NIA officials and local police reached the shop around 4 a.m. and began inspecting documents and the stock of weapons.
Officials are closely examining records related to the sale and purchase of firearms and verifying the serial numbers of weapons kept inside the shop. The entire search operation is being video-recorded by the investigating team. Sources said the action is aimed at tracing links to a suspected arms smuggling network.
According to information available so far, raids are being conducted simultaneously at around six locations across the district. Apart from PK Gun House and Sons owned by Rampravesh Kumar in the Laheri police station area of Bihar Sharif, searches are also underway at Mirzapur village under Chiksaura police station limits and Ram Murti Nagar in the Hilsa police station area.
Both the Mirzapur and Ram Murti Nagar locations are reportedly linked to a person identified as Satyendra Prasad, whose name has surfaced in connection with alleged illegal arms transactions.
Authorities said the operation is primarily focused on uncovering illegal arms trade, smuggling activities and possible syndicates involved in the supply and distribution of weapons.
For the operation, a special team of around 100 police personnel was formed at the district level. The team cordoned off the identified locations early in the morning before starting the search operations.
Sources indicated that even the local police were not fully informed in advance about the raids. Laheri police station in-charge Ranjit Kumar Rajak said they had only been told that two personnel from the station would be required to assist in the operation.
Further details are awaited as the investigation is ongoing.
