Bhagalpur: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched a series of raids across Bihar early Wednesday morning, targeting key locations in Bhojpur and Bhagalpur. The raids have caused significant panic among locals in the affected areas.
In Bhagalpur, NIA teams focused on the Bhikhanpur area within the jurisdiction of the Ishakchak police station.
The raids were carried out with the support of local police and involved the house of Najre Saddam, a suspect linked to a network engaged in the counterfeit currency trade. The authorities also questioned members of Saddam’s family during the operation.
This raid follows a previous arrest in September 2024 when the police apprehended three individuals near the India-Nepal border in Motihari, seizing fake currency notes valued at Rs 2 lakh. Among those arrested was Najre Saddam, a resident of Bhagalpur.
In the neighbouring Bhojpur district, the NIA raided two locations in the town of Ara. Operations were conducted in the Sahar police station area, specifically in Koran Dihari Tola, as well as in Chauri police station’s Chhatarpura locality. The raids were linked to an ongoing investigation into counterfeit currency distribution, with the NIA focusing on a network operating across multiple regions.
One significant arrest from this area occurred about five months ago when Md. Waris, a resident of Koran Dihari Tola, was detained for his involvement in the counterfeit note trade in Motihari. His arrest was part of a larger crackdown on the fake currency network stretching across Bihar.
