Patna: The National Institute of Fashion Technology, Patna marked its 40th foundation day on Thursday with a wide-ranging programme at its Mithapur campus, celebrating four decades of fashion education, design research and industry engagement.
The event was attended by Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, Bihar’s minister for industries and road construction, who was the chief guest. Messages of congratulation were also conveyed by Giriraj Singh, the Union minister of textiles, and Tanu Kashyap, director general of NIFT.
As part of the celebrations, the institute inaugurated a timeline wall tracing its institutional journey, opened a new ATM facility on campus, and hosted an exhibition of traditional weaving inspired by the colours of the Indian national flag. The exhibition underlined NIFT Patna’s long-standing emphasis on craft-based learning and regional textile traditions.
Addressing students, faculty and guests, Rahul Sharma, director of NIFT Patna, highlighted the institute’s focus on academic rigour, industry integration and innovation-led education. He said the campus remained committed to producing skilled, socially responsible professionals while strengthening links between local crafts, national industry and global fashion markets.
The programme also featured cultural performances by students, a SPIC MACAY recital by renowned santoor exponent Tarun Bhattacharya, the felicitation of distinguished guests and alumni, and the release of the annual college magazine Frames.
In his concluding address, the chief guest, Bihar’s Industries Minister Dilip Jaiswal, emphasised the institute’s growing contribution to Bihar’s creative and textile economy, noting that fashion education and craft-based innovation could play a significant role in employment generation and regional development.
Four decades after its founding, NIFT Patna’s anniversary celebrations reflected both a sense of institutional continuity and an ambition to expand its influence at the intersection of tradition, design and industry.
