Patna: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) campus in Patna will host a three-day “Craft Bazaar” and cultural showcase titled “Spectrum” from March 12 to 14, highlighting the rich craft traditions of Bihar and offering artisans a platform to connect with a wider audience.

Organised by NIFT Patna under the Ministry of Textiles, the event will bring together more than 90 artisans and around 30 stalls displaying handloom and handicraft products from across the state, along with creations by student designers and alumni entrepreneurs.

NIFT under the Ministry of Textiles, Patna Campus will be organising a showcase of regional crafts of Bihar in a 03 day Craft Bazaar on 12th to 14th of March 2026 aiming to provide an opportunity to interact with potential customers and sale of handloom and handicraft products. pic.twitter.com/iqEMO1QWtb

According to Rahul Sharma, the initiative aims to preserve traditional craftsmanship while creating opportunities for artisans and emerging designers to engage directly with potential customers.

The inaugural ceremony on March 12 will be attended by Samrat Choudhary, deputy chief minister and home minister of Bihar, while the concluding day will be marked by the presence of Giriraj Singh, India’s union minister of textiles.

Visitors will be able to explore a variety of regional crafts including Madhubani paintings, Bhagalpuri silk textiles, Manjusha paintings from Bhagalpur, Tikuli paintings from Patna, Sujani embroidery from Bhusara, hand-crocheted jewellery from Gaya, water hyacinth products from Vaishali, stone carvings from Kaimur, Bawanbuti textiles, brass crafts from Parev, and bamboo and cane products from Samastipur. Other items on display include sea shell crafts from East Champaran, lac bangles from Madhubani, banana fibre weaving from Motihari, and appliqué and macramé products.

The exhibition will also highlight several crafts with geographical indication (GI) status, including Madhubani and Manjusha paintings, appliqué (Khatwa), Sujuni embroidery, Sikki craft and Bhagalpuri silk.

Alongside the craft market, the event will feature a series of cultural and fashion programmes under the “Spectrum” banner. The opening evening will include a SPIC MACAY-organised qawwali performance by the Niazi Brothers, followed by a heritage fashion walk and an artisan felicitation ceremony.

Student-led activities on the second day will include a wearable art walk, dance drama, group dance, band performances and a flash mob. The final day will host the Spectrum fashion walk, the Mr and Ms Spectrum competition and an awards ceremony.

A joint artisan awareness workshop will also be organised by various academic departments at NIFT Patna, with about 60 artisans participating in skill development and knowledge-sharing sessions aimed at strengthening links between traditional crafts and contemporary design markets.

Sharma said such initiatives were essential for promoting Bihar’s craft heritage while enabling artisans and young designers to access wider markets and audiences.
