Patna: Bihar Health Minister Nishant has ordered action against three doctors at Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan (LNJP) Super Speciality Hospital in Rajvanshinagar after a surprise inspection on July 7 revealed alleged irregularities in patient care and hospital functioning.
The inspection reviewed healthcare services, medical arrangements and patient grievances at the government hospital. According to the Health Department, explanations have been sought from three doctors, who have been directed to respond within the stipulated timeframe.
Complaint Over Referring Patients to Private Clinic
During the inspection, officials received a complaint alleging that Medical Officer Shyam Kishore was referring patients visiting the government hospital to his private clinic for treatment.
The department said evidence supporting the allegation emerged during the inquiry. It described the practice as a violation of government service rules and medical ethics and directed the doctor to submit an explanation within one week.
Officials said the misuse of government hospital services would not be tolerated.
Surgery Specialist Found Absent From Duty
The inspection also found Specialist Medical Officer (Surgery) Rajkishore Roshan absent from his scheduled roster duty without prior permission.
According to the department, the inquiry indicated that he was away from the hospital without authorisation from the competent authority. Officials also received information suggesting that he was attending patients at his private clinic during the same period.
The doctor has been asked to explain both his absence from duty and his reported private practice. The department said further action would be decided after the completion of the inquiry.
Show-Cause Notice Over Ward Round Lapses
Deputy Director (Medical) Amarnath Prasad has also been issued a show-cause notice after the inspection raised concerns over his supervision of admitted patients.
The inquiry found that regular ward rounds had not been conducted and that essential medical information was missing from patients’ case sheets. The department said these findings reflected negligence in patient monitoring and a failure to discharge professional responsibilities.
Health Minister Warns Against Negligence
Nishant said the Health Department remains committed to ensuring discipline, transparency and accountability in government hospitals.
He said referring patients to private clinics, remaining absent from duty without authorisation and negligence in patient treatment would not be accepted under any circumstances.
The minister said providing timely and quality healthcare in government hospitals remains the department’s priority and directed doctors and hospital officials to perform their duties responsibly.
The Health Department said it would continue monitoring the functioning of government hospitals and healthcare services across the state.
