Patna: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth more than Rs 4,233 crore, while also transferring Rs 113 crore directly into the bank accounts of farmers affected by floods.
Speaking at the event from Sankalp, 1 Anne Marg, the chief minister said the new schemes would accelerate growth in the state and deliver direct benefits to ordinary people. Over 2.41 lakh farmers have received compensation under the Agricultural Input Subsidy Scheme.
Among the projects launched were initiatives of the Panchayati Raj Department, including the construction of 663 Panchayat Bhavan buildings at a cost of Rs 1,823 crore and 1,000 marriage halls under the Chief Minister’s Girl Child Marriage Scheme, estimated at Rs 500 crore. CM Nitish said the marriage halls would offer poor families affordable spaces to host weddings, easing their financial burden.

The programme also saw the inauguration of 322 Panchayat Bhavan buildings constructed by the Building Construction Department, 367 by the Local Area Engineering Organisation, and 140 by Gram Panchayats. These buildings will function as Gram Panchayat offices and will also host public service centres, bank branches, post offices and milk parlours. Officials said the infrastructure could be used during natural disasters and floods.
In Aurangabad district, the Daudnagar Campus was inaugurated by the Agriculture Department at a cost of Rs 40.46 crore, alongside the Bihar Grain Storage and Training Institute in Patna.
The event was attended by senior ministers including Bijendra Prasad Yadav, in charge of energy, planning and development, and Kedar Prasad Gupta, the Panchayati Raj minister, as well as senior officials and district magistrates. Panchayat representatives also joined via video conference.
