Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will address electricity consumers on August 12 as part of the state’s Vidyut Upbhokta Samvad programme, aimed at explaining the government’s decision to provide up to 125 units of free power each month.
The interaction, to be held through projectors at multiple locations, will involve engineers, electricity department staff, and consumers eligible for the benefit. Under the scheme, which began on August 1, households consuming up to 125 units per month are receiving a full subsidy on their bills, calculated based on July usage.
According to state officials, the initiative is saving domestic consumers Rs 500–700 monthly, while rural households are saving more than Rs 300. The government has set up four dialogue sites in each power supply branch, as well as sites at division and district levels, to ensure maximum participation and awareness.
