New Delhi/Patna: Janata Dal (United) national president and Rajya Sabha MP Nitish Kumar on Tuesday attended the proceedings of the Upper House for the first time as a member, marking a new chapter in his decades-long political career.
During his visit to Parliament, Nitish paid a courtesy call on Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan. The two discussed parliamentary affairs and other contemporary issues, according to the JD(U).
JD(U) working national president and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Jha was also present during the meeting.
First Appearance As Rajya Sabha MP
Sharing the development on X, Nitish said he had participated in the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha for the first time as a member of the House.
Although he had attended the Rajya Sabha earlier while serving as a Union minister, Tuesday marked his first appearance as an elected member of the Upper House.
Milestone In Political Career
Nitish served as Bihar chief minister for nearly two decades and has held several key positions in state and national politics.
With his entry into the Rajya Sabha, he has fulfilled a long-held political aspiration of becoming a member of the Upper House.
Among Few Leaders To Serve In All Four Legislatures
Nitish is among a select group of Bihar politicians who have been members of all four legislative bodies in India’s parliamentary system — the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, Bihar Legislative Assembly and Bihar Legislative Council.
His first participation in the Rajya Sabha as a member adds another milestone to a political career spanning more than four decades.
